Who, what, where, why - these are the questions to ask to learn more about the background of this website. Find more information on the group of individuals involved in creating the Kelvin History database below. As students, teachers, and alumni, we are proud to present you with this website, KelvinHistory.org.
As it turns out, the answer is far more complex; when a school has over 100 years of history, there are bound to be surprises and amazements, stories of loss and stories of hope, many great famous people, and many great unknown people. It is our goal in the creation of this website that current and past Kelvin students can learn from their peers, predecessors, and successors a more personal aspect of history: one that focuses on empathy and understanding over dates and names. Some may find this connection in the bio of a soldier in the Hall of Remembrance; others in a picture in the Gallery, while for others yet this project may serve as an important stepping stone in the journey to reap from history those emotions which are difficult to develop in everyday life alone, such as empathy and understanding for the other.
The creation of this website has been a learning experience for all involved. Composed of grade 11 and 12 students almost exclusively in the International Baccalaureate program, and led by the indefatigable Mr. Young, we have - after over 2 years of work - reached a point where the website can be published. It is important, however, to realize that this is by no means a finished product. History is ever changing: new events, new interpretations, and new individuals all ensure that we will be updating our content for as long as Kelvin exists as a school. We hope that this website can serve as a relevant, interesting learning tool for all who use it.
